Where the NHS money goes
Essential reading for understanding how the NHS receives a lot of money from government but is always short of it for spending on healthcare.
There is a very similar story to be told in education, too.

An hour ago I was visiting my local hospital for the first time in several months. I noticed the dire condition of the cheap, rotting, single glazed, wooden windows as I entered and it reminded me of the shoddy estate house I lived in thirty years ago.
Once inside the hospital, the contrast was amazing. New and very attractive art work was lining all the walls and corridors, and on enquiring I was told £35000 had been spent on these pictures.
I daresay £35000 is considered a trifling amount these days, but I couldn't help wondering if the management are more adept at managing the medical budget than they are at managing the estate budget.
