The funniest thing that has happened in Britain for a long time....
...has been the BBC television interview of a taxi-driver under the misapprehension that he was an expert on the internet. The taxi-driver was at the BBC to pick up the expert after the interview. But due to some mistake, he was taken up to the studio and interviewed in the place of the expert.
The look of astonishment on the taxi-driver's face as he was introduced as someone he was not is priceless. He bravely tried to answer questions on a subject he knew nothing about. He did pretty well in the circumstancees. Then after his interview, a reporter - apparently convinced by his answers - remarked "as we have just heard.." - his source being one very bewildered taxi-driver totally ignorant of the subject.

Incidentally, I was told while at the BBC this evening that this mystery driver has done taxi jobs about three times there since Christmas and may work for the firm "W1".
