Scotland is the most violent country in the developed world, followed by other parts of the United Kingdom. This is according to a UN assessment. It tells us volumes about how dramatically the culture in this country has deteriorated. The middle class does not see most of what is going on. The complacent reassurances of the Governmen which repeatedly asserts that it is making progress and hiring more officers is - in the light of these figures - absurdly inadequate.

It comes as no surprise that Scotland which now has an economy so dominated by the public sector which squeezes out private initiative and personal responsibility should end up in this mess. Alas England doesn't seem so far behind.

I think the middle class sees very clearly what's going on, actually.
I think this is a typical Blairism failure which should become more and more commonplace as time goes on.
Blair's "success" is built on a pile of statistical frauds : for example, the economy (masses "on tick" hidden by accounting), health (fiddled health statistics), education (fiddled exam results).
This is the reality, not the endlessly doctored nonsense that the Police come out with. Anyone - almost anywhere - knows that Policing in this country is almost totally non-existent (though when it suits, there seem to be masses of them).
IMO all those chickens are coming home to roost. Because we've had 8 years of blatant gerrymandering (MPs always did it but this is spectacular) the gap between the reality and the "claims" is now so wide that it can't be hidden or "PR"ed away, and is also so wide that it's almost irreparable.
